Estonian Plywood Relies on Grenzebach Once Again—AI Elevates Quality Assurance to a New Level
- Estonian Plywood commissions Grenzebach once again for a veneer dryer to expand production capacity.
- AI-powered surface scanner ROSI will be integrated into both dryer systems.
- The decision is based on successful previous collaboration and high satisfaction with quality and service
BAD HERSFELD/Germany. The Grenzebach Group, a global leader in process and plant technologies, received another order from Estonian Plywood AS (ESTPLY) in November 2025. ESTPLY, headquartered in Jõgeva, Estonia, is expanding its production capacity and once again relying on Grenzebach’s proven technology and service. As part of the project, Grenzebach will deliver not only a second veneer dryer but, for the first time, integrate the AI-powered veneer scanner ROSI (Real-Time Optical Surface Inspection) into both the new and existing systems. The decision reflects the long-standing successful partnership and ESTPLY’s ongoing commitment to investing in modern manufacturing technologies.
Through adaptive LED technology and state-of-the-art cameras, ROSI reliably detects surface defects, dimensional deviations, and structural irregularities. Results are automatically classified according to customer-specific quality criteria—known as recipes—without requiring programming skills. “With ROSI, we are taking quality assurance to a new level while providing a user-friendly solution that can be seamlessly integrated into existing processes,” explains Benedikt Allendorf, Product Manager Grenzebach Group. The scanner will be integrated into the new line and retrofitted into the existing system.
Trusted Partnership
The decision to work with Grenzebach is based on positive experience with the existing system and high satisfaction with quality, reliability, and service. ESTPLY, part of the Lemeks Group, operates one of the most modern plywood plants in Northern Europe and produces high-quality birch plywood for industrial applications. Since the plant opened in 2019, the company has continuously invested in advanced manufacturing technologies and is once again relying on Grenzebach as a trusted partner. Timo Hermlin, CEO Estonian Plywood, adds: “We are pleased to have Grenzebach as a partner who understands our requirements and delivers innovative solutions.”
Commissioning of the new system is scheduled for Q4 2026. With this follow-up order and the integration of ROSI, Grenzebach and Estonian Plywood are sending a clear signal for the future of digital wood processing.
