"Grenzebach hilft" 2021: Trainees promote biodiversity and sustainability in the region

HAMLAR/ Germany. Trainees of the automation specialist Grenzebach in Hamlar took a stand for environmental protection in the region in their "Grenzebach hilft" (Grenzebach helps) project 2021, with measures such as birdhouses and vegetable boxes. Protecting the environment, promoting sustainable thinking and acting – that is the idea of this year's social project. This initiative is supported by their training company in Hamlar, the Demeterhof Funk in Oberndorf and the district office of Donau-Ries, Lower Nature Conservation Authority.

Environmental protection in practice

Local and organic, vegetables directly from the fields: In cooperation with Demeterhof Funk, the "Grenzebach hilft" team is organizing the sale of regional and seasonal vegetables in Demeter quality at the company's site in Hamlar in September and October. "To make grocery shopping even more sustainable, we also offer fruit and vegetable bags made from 100 percent organic cotton. These are not only reusable but also help reduce plastic waste", says Sarah Kotter, Industrial Clerk Trainee at Grenzebach.

Under the professional guidance of Andrea Wadenstorfer, Biodiversity Consultant at the Lower Nature Conservation Authority of the Donau-Ries district office, the trainees also constructed bird nesting boxes for various bird species that are endemic to the district of Donau-Ries. Some of these will be installed at the local biotope, and some are offered for sale to Grenzebach employees. The nesting boxes protect young birds from weather and predators and provide an ideal habitat for them to grow.

Sebastian Pfeilschifter, Industrial Mechanic Trainee at Grenzebach, adds: "Many visitors who come to the biotope pollute the habitat of plants and animals by being careless and leaving garbage behind. To sustainably protect the biotope and reduce waste, we have therefore also set up self-made pallet furniture with the sign 'Please take your garbage with you." As a seating, the furniture invites passers-by to enjoy nature in a respectful way.

Donation for Glühwürmchen e.V. Tapfheim

The earnings of the sale of vegetable boxes and nesting boxes will be entirely donated to the Glühwürmchen e.V. Parents and families of children suffering from cancer founded this association to offer families in need quick and non-bureaucratic help.
