The History of Grenzebach Algoscan GmbH:Foundation of the „Institut für Automation“, Munich, now Sick AG Waldkirch. The aim was the development and production of optoelectronic devices for the industry. In the following years, optical sensors for process measurement technique and process automation became a smaller part of the company. Main focus of attention became however the development and production of optical devices for quality assurance in the Munich plant. With increasing knowledge about lasers, patent telecentric laser devices could be developed, which were mostly used in the photographic industries. The ability to inspect a photographic film inline at 780nm wavelength and to a 100% without destroying the film enabled a whole new standard in terms of the reduction of expenses occurring through scrap
