Company History


Grenzebach Maschinenbau GmbH had its humble beginnings as a repair shop for farm equipment. Josef Grenzebach, the father of the Chairman of the Board Rudolf Grenzebach, opened the shop in 1920.

Rudolf Grenzebach founded the company Grenzebach Maschinenbau in 1960 and began, with seven employees at the time, to build up production for conveyor technology.

The pictures below show the mechanics shop in 1960, at its location in the center of the village Hamlar.

The first steps led to the production of gravel transportation conveyor belts and gravel processing plants.
Later, processing plants were developed for the production of cheese in dairies, or for the furniture industry.

In the mid-70's, Grenzebach entered into flat glass production technology, which is still one of the pillars upon which the company stands today.

Towards the end of the 70's, an electronics department was gradually developed, representing a decisive supplement to the mechanical engineering.

In 1988, Rudolf Grenzebach expanded to America with the opening of Grenzebach Corporation, a production plant in Newnan, Georgia.

In 1998 a sales office was opened in Shanghai to handle business in China and Far East. To be able to give this market the attention it requires, in 2000 Grenzebach starts a production facility Grenzebach Machinery (Shanghai) Ltd. in the Minshen Industrial Park. Now equipment meant for the Asean Market can directly be manufactured in Shanghai. In April 2004 Grenzebach Machinery (Shanghai) Ltd. move into new office buildings and 2 large manufacturing halls.

On May 18, 2001 the official inauguration of Grenzebach Macinery (Shanghai) Ltd. is made by Maria and Rudolf Grenzebach .

In 2000 the Grenzebach group expands its activity by founding Grenzebach Foerdertechnik GmbH in Eggenstein, Germany, (near Karlsruhe). Materials Handling and Logistics Technology is the company's main business.

Beginning of 2002 Grenzebach transfer the holdings in the Innomess - Gesellschaft für Messtechnik mbH, Marl - to Isra Vision systems AG, Darmstadt, Germany. Holding shares in Isra Vision Grenzebach can now participate in the promising technologies of both engineering companies for measurement technology.

On February 1, 2002 Grenzebach takes over AKI Dryer based in Eugene, Oregon, USA.  Grenzebach AKI Corporation look back to years of successful co-operation between Grenzebach and AKI. Already in the nineties both companies had a fruitful co-operation and sold high-quality production lines for plasterboard all over the world. In 2004 Grenzebach AKI move to Newnan, Georgia. A sales representative office remains in Eugene to serve local customers.

On October 1, 2002 Grenzebach takes over the insolvent Babcock-BSH GmbH in Bad Hersfeld. Name of the new company is Grenzebach BSH GmbH. Grenzebach is convinced that this is an important step for Grenzebach and its Gypsum Technology section.

In January 2004, Grenzebach and Onero, two pioneers in the development of automated baggage loading and offloading, combine their knowledge in offering solutions for these vital issues. Grenzebach Onero GmbH provide substantial experience with multiple technology and real life operation of baggage handling systems.
